SOCHI, Russia - Declan Farmer had two goals and an assist Thursday as the United States defeated Canada 3-0 in the sledge hockey semifinals at the Sochi Paralympic Winter Games. Joshua Pauls added a goal and an assist for the U.S., while Steve Cash made 11 saves to get the shutout. The Americans will face Russia in Saturdays gold-medal game at Shayba Arena after the hosts defeated Norway 4-0 in Thursdays other semifinal. Corbin Watson stopped seven shots for Canada, which will play Norway for bronze on Saturday. Thursdays result was a bitter pill to swallow for the Canadians, who were trying to become the first country to sweep mens, womens and sledge hockey at an Olympic and Paralympic Games. Gold medallists in 2006, Canada was also looking to avenge a disappointing fourth-place finish on home soil in Vancouver in 2010 and was perfect through three round-robin games, outscoring the opposition 15-1. The Americans, meanwhile, will play for gold for the second straight Paralympics after winning the tournament four years ago. The U.S. was upset by Russia 2-1 in their final group game here to set up a semifinal against their bitter rivals. Canada came in having won the 2013 world championship and world sledge hockey challenge — with both victories coming over the U.S. — but lost two of three exhibition meetings with the Americans in the leadup to the Paralympics. In other results, Torontos Chris Williamson and guide Nick Brush of Panorama, B.C., won Canadas sixth alpine skiing medal of the games, claiming bronze in the visually impaired mens slalom. Williamson finished in one minute 48.61 seconds, behind Russias Valerii Redkozubov (1:43.21) and Spains Yon Santacana-Maiztegui (1:46.82). Kimberly Joines of Rossland, B.C., was awarded the bronze medal from Wednesdays womens sit-ski slalom. Joines had finished in the silver-medal position, but was bumped down a rank when Germanys Anna Schaffelhuber successfully appealed her disqualification and won gold. It was a mixed day for Canada in wheelchair curling. Canada thrashed Slovakia 16-0 before losing 12-1 to Finland. Canada finished the round-robin in second place at 7-2 and will face China in a semifinal on Saturday. Canada is third in the overall medal standings with 10 medals (two gold, two silver, six bronze). Russia leads with 50 medals, followed by Ukraine with 14. Nike Air Presto Deutschland Kaufen . Billy Hamilton finished off Cincinnatis biggest comeback of the season for a doubleheader sweep.(SportsNetwork.com) - The Toronto Blue Jays eye a sixth straight win on Thursday when they open a four-game series with the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park. Toronto won for the eighth time in nine games on Wednesday, as Dioner Navarro had three RBI singles and the Blue Jays wrapped up a three-game sweep at Fenway Park with a 6-1 win over the Boston Red Sox. Juan Francisco knocked in two runs for the Blue Jays, who are just 2 1/2 games back of the Baltimore Orioles in the American League East. Mark Buehrle (11-7) bounced back from a bad outing against the New York Yankees in the Bronx last week to break a nine-start winless streak. Buehrle, 0-6 since a win over Kansas City on June 1, gave up just one run on six hits and a walk in 6 2/3 innings. Hoping to keep the Jays rolling on Thursday will be righty Drew Hutchison, who is 7-9 with a 4.44 ERA. Hutchison snapped a three-start losing streak on Saturday in New York, as he allowed two runs and five hits in 6 2/3 innings. "Things that have happened previously, theres nothing you can do about them once they happen," Hutchison said. "Its a fresh game, go out there and do everything you can do to give your team a chance to win." Houston, meanwhile, had inteended to throw righty Jarred Cosart in the opener, but he was dealt to Miami earlier in the day as part of a six-player deal at the non-waiver trade deadline.dddddddddddd So instead it will be righty Jake Buchanan, who is 1-1 this season with a 5.56 ERA. Buchanan has pitched primarily out of the bullpen this season, but did start a game against Tampa Bay back on June 21. However, he surrendered five runs in 4 1/3 innings of that one. Houston picked up a series win against Oakland on Wednesday, as Robbie Grossmans two-run homer capped the six-run first inning that propelled the Astros to an 8-1 win. Houston starter Dallas Keuchel (10-7) was superb en route to his AL-leading fourth complete game of the season. The left-hander yielded just a run on four hits over nine dominant innings and earned his first career win against Oakland in five starts. Keuchel said he was lucky to get early swings from the As batters. He threw 111 pitches, including 70 strikes. "I looked up and it was the eighth inning," Keuchel said. Jon Singleton also homered for the Astros and Jose Altuve extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a single in the sixth. Toronto took two of three from the Astros earlier in the year. ' ' '
